How Christmas day almost went real Bad

Christmas Day in Jackson was crystal clear blue bird, and the snow was still relatively soft.  Trevor Hiatt and I went out below Pucker Face on Cody Peak to hit a kicker he had built a few days before.  We each hit it a few times working on some new tricks....then this happened.   Luckily I took most of the impact with my hip/upper leg.  It left quite a bruise, but other than that I am all good.  Someone was watching out for me!

Pow Skiing Early Season!

Don, Jeff, Patrick and Tyler stoked after a big day
Its only December 14th, and already Jackson Hole and the surrounding mountains have received 171" of snow with a base depth of 66".  Every day since the mountain opened in late November there has been powder to be skied.  It feels like its already mid February.  You can jump off just about anything you want!  And the snow coverage feels just about as good as it ever got last year.  This being said, the early season which here is usually regulated to one icy strip of man made snow, has been game on.  Big lines are already being skied and large cliffs, which usually aren't ready to be hit until mid season have been getting hit!  Every one here has really tired legs and big smiles which is how it should always be!  With another large storm looming, this weekend promises to give us a bit more pow before the mass crowds of Christmas descend on the valley.  Here are a few pics from the last few days of POW skiing!

Sledding to get Christmas Trees

Since the winter in Jackson is off to such a roaring start we decided on Sunday 12/5 to get our Christmas trees via snowmobile.  Together with Lisa Watts, Don Watkins, Hadley Smith, Nial Overbay, and Sean Scarlett we headed up Teton Pass, and further up  Phillips Canyon.  The snow was deep, the sun was starting to poke through the clouds, and the trees were ripe for the cutting.  After sledding for about 20 min, we came to a very promising area.  We split up and set out to find just the right tree.  It wasn't to long before Lisa found the tree she had to have. Soon there after the others in the crew found the perfect trees.  After a few hours, a few beers and some pow turns on our sleds it was time to head out.  All in all every one came away with the perfect trees for Christmas 2010!
